Five (5) quick fun facts about travel to Jamaica

Are you traveling to Jamaica and have questions about safety and protocols surrounding COVID-19?

You may be anxious about the procedure if you test positive on the island. That is a very legitimate concern, so let's dive in and address five things that can give you peace of mind.

What is the requirement for visiting Jamaica?

You are required to present a negative COVID-19 Antigen or molecular (PCR, NAAT, RNA) test result to check in for your flight to Jamaica. The date of the sample collection must be within 3 days of the date of travel. The negative test result must be presented to the airline representative in order to complete the check-in for a flight.

Additionally, a Travel Authorization form must be completed within seven (7) days of intended travel.

What is the departure requirement from Jamaica for U S Travelers?

Travelers are required to show a negative COVID-19 viral test result taken no more than 1 day before travel, or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 before they board their flight.

What happens if I test positive while on island?

If you test positive, you are required to be isolated to help reduce the chance of infection spread. Accommodations for isolation can be arranged with your hotel. If you have travel insurance, your accommodations and meals may be covered. If not, the hotel will arrange rates and amenities based on their policy.

When can clients be released from isolation?

Release from isolation can be approved according to the rules of the country of destination and the airlines, provided that the person goes straight from isolation to the flight utilizing transportation and airport protocols that are put in place to decrease risk of exposure to other passengers, staff, and the general population.

Does it matter if I am asymptomatic?

If you test positive and are asymptomatic or who have mild symptoms and are recovering (as per medical team’s evaluation) you can be released from isolation after 5 days, to travel on the 6th day. If you remain symptomatic after 5 days, the ten (10) days quarantine period must be completed.
